Rational Middle of Immigration Completes First Season with Release of Hard-hitting Season Finale
Because there is no information standard-bearer, the two sides of the immigration debate have continued to drift farther apart. The Center for Houston's Future has worked with Rational Middle Media to produce a series of short documentaries intended to present the facts on immigration and frame them with historical context and personal stories. We are focusing on the challenges facing the country through the eyes of immigrants, municipalities, business owners, and citizens on the ground who find themselves confronted with this issue.
On July 31st, Rational Middle Media, released its season finale to the first season of the Rational Middle of Immigration. The final two episodes explain the economic issues that underlie the immigration debate and attempt to create a pathway to a solution. Th two-part finale completes the ten-part premiere season with an unblinking look at undocumented immigrants in America. The two episodes interview some of the nation’s experts about immigration reform and how to bring undocumented immigrants out of the shadows and into the nation’s workforce. The first season of the Rational Middle of Immigration, which is free to view and share at www.RationalMiddle.com, is a collection of short films exploring the complicated issue of immigration. The series explores issues ranging from border security to immigration’s impact on American jobs to the complex issue of what to do about the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants who are already in the country.
“Immigration is currently the most important crisis facing our nation,” said Kallenberg. “Through these films and the discussions that are energized by the films, our aim is to move the needle on this imperative discussion, and help explain the immigration issue from a balanced perspective. The ultimate goal of the Rational Middle of Immigration is to create a foundation for a solution.”
To date, the series has been seen, downloaded and shared over 1.4 million times.
“Providing this holistic view is what sets the Rational Middle of Immigration apart from other discussions currently taking place and could help us find some common ground in the immigration debate,” said Executive Producer Loren Steffy. “The goal of the series is to inform the public, shape sensible policy solutions and create a deeper understanding of this important challenge.”
