2019 Dinner and Conversation

When: November 13, 2019
Reception: 6:00 pm
Program & Dinner: 7:00 pm

Where: River Oaks Country Club, 1600 River Oaks Blvd

We’re honored to host two of our state’s most prominent leaders for our after-dinner conversation, Tom Luce and Margaret Spellings, who will discuss their bold vision for the future of Texas.

The discussion will be moderated by Dan Goodgame, editor in chief of Texas Monthly.

Tom and Margaret have worked together for decades, including at the U.S. Department of Education during Margaret’s service as Secretary of Education and Tom’s role as Assistant Secretary under President George W. Bush.

Most recently, Margaret was president of the University of North Carolina System and served as a senior advisor in both the White House and to then-Governor Bush. Tom has had a distinguished career as founder and managing partner of the Hughes & Luce law firm and has served the state in many prominent public service roles.

Both of our guests share a belief that the future of Texas requires new thinking and new solutions. With that goal in mind, Tom recently founded Texas 2036, a nonprofit focused on creating a vision for the state, and Margaret has joined him as CEO and President.

Judy and Scott Nyquist have graciously agreed to chair the Dinner along with co-chairs Shannon Langrand and Matt Emal, given their civic leadership and passion for our city, state and region. Scott has had a distinguished career as senior partner at management consulting firm McKinsey & Company and Judy is well known for her visionary leadership in the arts and the public realm. Shannon is the CEO and Founder and Matt is CAO of Langrand, a strategic marketing firm and creative agency with a passion for making big ideas real.

We are delighted to have Chevron as our Presenting Sponsor, and we deeply appreciate their continuing commitment to our region.

We’ll also present this year’s IMPACT Award to Laura Jaramillo for making a difference in the greater Houston area.

Please join us on November 13 for an interesting and entertaining evening!
